JCEDF programs envision not only to meet the various needs of the street and urban poor children/youth and families in the community, but
also to find an enduring solution to the pressing problem of poverty.
Livelihood/ Microfinance is one essential component of JCEDF's strategy for Empowerment of the poor and poverty reduction. This includes the creation of opportunities for people to generate jobs and/ or augment income.Through the Microfinance program, the people are being provided with funds that enable them to start micro-enterprise/ small businesses. Majority of these people will be engaging in food vending, buying and selling of various items, and retail/variety stores, and cell phone loading stations and services such as repair, manicure, pedicure and haircuts.Livelihood on the other hand, provides skills training to urban poor youth and parents and engaging them in livelihood activities which will help them earn a living. Products through these activities are being sold.
Community organisations are geared towards a systematic, planned and
liberating change of process of transforming a malfunctioning,
powerless, fearless, and needy community into organised, empowered,
self-reliant community.
° Visiting Orphanages
The JCEDF will be going out to various Orphanages within and outside
my community to visit the children to present the little we can offer and
also to encourage & pray with them.
° Parents' Organisations
This will be geared towards empowering parents, creating awareness
among them and child rights and also helping them contribute towards
the Empowerment of their own community.
° Children and Youth Group
This is aimed at enabling people to children's Associations and youth
Core Groups to implement activities geared towards the end child and
youth development.
Microfinance, and Self-Help Group
This group aims at conducting activities to help its members manage
and improve their finances. These activities include financial literacy
sessions, value formation/ education, and meeting/ consultation on
income generating activities and discussion on business opportunities.
This includes nutrition, environmental sanitation monitoring of health status of children and their parents and training of Junior Health Workers (JHWs). Children and parents are provided with medical services and assistance such as providing free drugs, administration of flu vaccine to children with pulmonary tuberculosis. Training, workshops and education classes/sessions are also facilitated among parents, youth and children on topics including but not limited to nutrition, reproductive health, family planning, violence against women ( VAW), primary health care and waste management.
This involves the provision of educational support to select children that will enable them to acquire education through the Alternative Learning System (ALS). This support will prevent children from working on the street and facilitate learning of appropriate Nigerian values. Children and youth who are undergoing formal education are provided with tuition and miscellaneous assistance and school supplies. They are also given tutorials, counselling and catechism sessions, workshops/seminars on children and youth welfare, as well as medical assistance when necessary. The main purpose for the provision of this "full scholarship package" is to prevent the children/youth from dropping out of school due to financial incapability.
